It seems as if he's made the choice to run away from his problems, in the literal sense. Someone like him would never take their own life. Remember: we specifically chose him as a target because he can handle it. Last year, he didn't take any actions of that nature so why now of all times? Why not before?
He does not seem the type to simply kill their self and be done with it.
I would be so very disappointed if that was the case...
Also, Wataru doesn't seem to be worried and I would like to assume that he knows Sakuma quite well.

I suppose you're right. Maybe he's hiding out somewhere right now. I know he always had an affinity for hiding out in graveyards. Ugh...
